Jannat is the Arabic word for paradise. The original part of Jannat House may have been build at the end of the 17th century. The Jannat House have been extended the last years over two plots and are now the second biggest hotel in Lamu town with 27 beds. What guests enjoy at Jannat House is the privacy because of the many terraces on different levels. The swimming pool is a valuable part to enjoy in the shade of a big mango tree.

The Indian ocean with its warm water is ideal for snorkling, the feeling to swim in the clear water with fish in all colors of the rainbow is unforgettable. With our comfortable boat with build in kitchen and toilet,we can take you to the surrounding islands for barbeque on the beach and many other activities.

The accommodation offered in Jannat House is comprised of 16 rooms and 35 beds mostly double rooms. It boasts a dining room, pool, bar and five terraces, some with an astonishing sea view.

The hotel has no air-condition nor glass windows, as the soothing wind from the Indian ocean is quite effective.

There are cold and warm water (no hot water as we try to use natural energy sources as much as possible). There is no TV or telephones in the rooms, which all together contributes to the calm environment.

Jannat House have good conference capabilities, apart from a big conference room some of the terraces
could also be used.

 Nature

The weather in Lamu is stable. The temperature fluctuations are small – maximum is around 33 degrees Celsius (in February), minimum is about 26 degrees (June/July) when the big rain period occurs.

The archipelago around Lamu include five built upon islands and a great number small uninhabited coral and sand islands. The Indian Ocean with its warm water is ideal for snorkeling.

The feeling to swim in the clear water with fish in all colors of the rainbow is unforgettable. With our comfortable dhow (about 11 meters long) with built in kitchen and toilet we can take you to the surrounding islands for barbecue on the beach and many other activities.

Lamu has still a big number of fishermen who go out fishing in a traditional way. Some of them are willing to let our guests join them. We recommend you to do so-if you are lucky you may be accompanied by dolphins and even giant turtles. The local people can also tell you about dugong, large mammals living mostly in the grassy parts of the long beaches.
