Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is the biggest Airport in East and Central Africa, and is the focal point for major aviation activity in the region. Its importance as an aviation centre makes it the pacesetter for other airports in the region. JKIA, located 18 kilometres to the East of Nairobi, is served by 49 scheduled airlines. JKIA has direct flight connections to Europe, the Middle East, Far East and the African Continent.
It is the main hub for Kenya Airways and Five forty Aviations. This Airport was opened in 1958 by the last governor of colonial Kenya Evelyn Baring. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s terminal has three units that cater for both arrivals and departures. Unit 1 and 2 are mainly used for international flights whereas unit 3 is mainly used for domestic flights.
