Tourists can also shop at the airport where there are a number of duty free shops. If you are visiting Mombasa then the best place to shop is at Mombasa’s old town. The town is home to great markets and bazaars; you also have a chance to negotiate. The market gives the visitors a chance to see and buy furniture that has been made from fine wood. Mombasa is home to the best woodcarvers who design the best of Swahili furniture. Kikoy is a must have when in Mombasa, the kikoy is a bright, usually striped, cloth with knotted tassels along each hem. Another must have is the Swahili kanga it has bright colors and has stripes and has tassels along each hem. The most unique feature of the kanga is the Swahili proverb that offers a word of advice or wisdom. Tourists can use the Kikoy or Kanga as a towel or just tie it on the waist; or carry it to the beach.
